Member Updates

In late Spring, many of you participated in the SPSP climate survey so we could learn more about your experiences at SPSP conferences, as well as SPSP sponsored events (e.g., SISPP). Thank you to all those who participated. We are very grateful. As a reminder, the overall goal of the survey was to provide SPSP with information needed to tailor policies, procedures, and funding priorities in order to promote diversity and inclusivity as well as prevent and respond to harassment and discrimination. The survey had two parts with the first focused on broad issues of diversity and climate and the second part focused on sexual harassment.
SPSP is seeking a diverse pool of candidates for the next election cycle of Board members (positions starting January 2020). Members of the SPSP Board help guide the future and vision of the organization and field. Please consider adding your name to the ballot or identifying a colleague whom you think would be a good candidate. No prior SPSP leadership experience is required. SPSP encourages nominations of colleagues and self-nominations nominations from both academic (large and small universities and colleges) and non-academic settings. The following positions will be on the ballot this spring:
The Society for Personality and Social Psychology has opened nominations for the editorship of its flagship blog, Character and Context. The editor's term is three years, transitioning in early 2019. Candidates for the position should have experience writing for the general public, as well as for colleagues in the field.
The SPSP Student Committee, one of the association’s most active committees, works to promote the interests of SPSP’s graduate and undergraduate student members. Their work includes producing a student focused monthly newsletter, SPSPotlight, liaising with committees across SPSP on behalf of the student voice, and organizing and executing events and activities specifically for students at the annual SPSP convention as well as year-round. The 2019-2020 committee will transition to their roles during the 2019 SPSP Annual Convention.   2019-2020 SPSP Student Committee Chair
The time has come to select your 2019 Student Committee members. The SPSP Student Committee, one of the association’s most active committees, works to promote the interests of SPSP’s graduate and undergraduate student members. All current undergraduate and graduate student members, as of November 7, 2018, will be emailed a ballot to vote.
In an effort to improve transparency in the election of Board members and appointment of committee members, the SPSP Board of Directors approved a new structure for its Nominations and Elections Committee. At this time, SPSP seeks initial members of this new committee.
